The Hjardarbol Guesthouse was quite a nice little place. It is registered as a Farmstead Guesthouse which put it on special lists. Most of their clients came via tour buses. Here is a look around the place.

Black sand washout. We drove across this area in the dark on our first night in Iceland. It is nice to get to see it during the day. |

This was the first time it was sunny on the south side of the island while we were there. We decided to head for Diamond beach to see what it was like during the sunlight. While heading that way, we experienced various surroundings from snow, sunshine, green mossy rocks, snowcapped mountains, rain, green rolling hills, waterfalls, and more. Quite a unique area with so much diversity in a short span of time.

Some farms were just awe-inspiring! Sprawling pastures backed-up by snow covered mountains! Just wow! -Ryan |

The south has the most tourism from tour companies. The number of buses, vans, short buses is crazy. Iceland is very clean with very little litter and damage. At this particular waterfall, we witnessed bus drivers littering, and people walking off the trail (moreso than any other area we'd been to). We estimate that within the next 5-10 years that the lack of rangers/cops/rules in the area will change the more that tourists are visiting. Quite sad really. It is the same thing that happened to Hawaii over time. |

Walking out behind the gas station, there are some unique rock formations off the black sand beach. This is the same beach where the battle of Vik was fought many years ago. |

You will notice a young child playing in their front yard with the massive waterfall beside their house. There were so many waterfalls either directly over houses or offset like this. Just stunning! |
|
The sunshine was illuminating the glacier. Really can see the blue color of the ice today. Every time we drove past the glaciers they had different appearances. Ryan teased me that I took pictures every time we passed! |

I guess I can't blame Shannon for wanting to take so many pictures. This time by was crazy amazing, and the last time, and the one before that too. -Ryan |

Driving down the road, we get hit by a rock off a small Honda-civic like vehicle. -Shannon
That was a $900 euro chip. We could have paid about $30 extra per day for insurance, but we paid for all the damages and we're letting MasterCard rental insurance take care of it. -Ryan |

One lane bridges are quite popular in Iceland. |

This was a hidden little walkway to see the back side of the lagoon - away from most tourists. |
|
A selfie attempt at the lagoon - unfortunately, the angle and sun washed out the beautiful blue glaciers behind us. |
|
So I took one of just Ryan instead. -Shannon
Rare sighting of me outside. I found out that being outside really drained my energy fast! While it wasn't super cold, the winds were very brisk and I just couldn't take being out for long. Smile, snap, and head for the truck... And to make matters worse, the zipper broke on my coat! Notice me holding the coat closed -Ryan |

Square hunk of black ice... Neat! -Ryan |

Sunset at Jokulsaron Glacier Lagoon |
We drove back toward Hella for the night because Cloud forecasts did not look good for this area. We called it a night at the Vatnojokull NP visitors center parking lot.
