Kalaupapa National Historic Park

Image
The only way in and out of the park is by air or hiking/mule ride down 3.5mile sea cliffs if already on Molokai. This park is still a leprosy camp with some residents still living on site.   The National Park service has begun to 'restore' the camp and made arrangements to allow 100 people access to the camp per day.  Many areas are off limits and you must be in a guided group.  You also have to obtain a special access permit from the health department! "Bad kids" to the back of the bus This is a very sad place because the lepers were kicked off the boat out by the big rock to the left of my head in the bayand many drowned before reaching the rocky coastline.  But it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
