April 13-15, 2015 Texas Hill Country - VROC style
VROC Texas Hill Country Rally
1 National Park
After making it to Fredericksburg, we went on the hunt for the VROC'ers that we knew were in the area because we saw posts on FB. Little did we know there was a secret tunnel to the Kaw pasture so we had to wait until Monday to meet up with everyone!!
Day 1
Breakfast was the size of Texas each morning! (Sorry it's upside down - darn smart phones!)

Our first stop was the Lyndon B Johnson National Historic Park. If there is a park in the area, you better believe it comes first! LBJ's wife, Lady Bird, is a major influence for the presence of all the wildflowers sweeping the Texas Hill Country area. I would like to come back and spend more time on the ranch, during wildflower season of course. LBJ sure had a nice spread.

Met up with the VROC crew for a ride through Willow Run. Absolutely as beautiful as pictures we saw online. Flowers were in bloom and scents filled the air!

The perfect shot of Blondy -
no she was not posing but sure looks like
"Super Blondy" to the rescue!! lol

Rally Day 2
Happy Birthday Ryan!! A ride through Twisted Sisters and "Other" places since our fearless navigator was lost "twisted" around half the time!! But a new ride is almost always a good ride, as was this one.
I never knew that TX was known for many exotic and such a diversity of animals. It was interesting to see buffalo roaming with gazelle's, kangaroos, jack rabbits and other exotic animals I would expect to see in Australia or other parts of the world. There were many exotic ranch hunts advertised everywhere.
While stopped at a gas station, this idiot in a landscaping truck was an impatient SOB. He pulled his rig into the gas station just a few feet from our bikes - Lanny went ahead and Sherm whipped around the other way. When it was our turn to leave the station, this xxxxxxx backed into us as we were going around the back of his trailer. He knew we were there and didn't even let us go around before he backed into us made us drop the bike. The back of his trailer ran into our mirror. He was very lucky that we VROCers are down to earth, law abiding citizens. The blood was pumping to do otherwise.
Time to get back to the beauty of the area and forget about the couple hundred dollars and the idiot. Far too much to enjoy here than to relish on those types of things.
Rally Day 3
Need to find a fix for our mirror. Believe it or not - 1) you cannot just replace the mirror glass, you have to buy a whole new housing 2) The nearest Honda dealer that had a new mirror for a 2015 wing was in North Carolina. We opted to find a temporary fix for now and have a new mirror sent to Sherm in Kingman, AZ.
With a little ingenuity and many phone calls to find someone to cut glass in the area, we found a great place in Kerrville to help, C&M Glass Company. We got a large piece of auto mirror from Autozone and this nice gentleman help cut and make a temporary mirror. $8 Autozone mirror + $25 cash to glass cutter = peace of mind while riding the next 3000 miles.
We thought we'd try to meet up with the group in Luckenbach...I guess we'll have to write a song about that!!
En route, we realized we used the last of our backup cash to pay for
the mirror. In need of an ATM before we get to Luckenbach.
This one didn't appear to be in service!

WildSeed Farms is a beautiful place full of multiple wild flower varieties.
Hangin' by the fire on our final night...Sherm and Lanny working on their blogs. How technology has changed the face of the VROC campfire!! lol |
