2 National Parks and 435 miles

Shannon noticed the guys on the water tower in Rocksprings while we were stopped for gas and grabbing a quick bite for lunch.

We ran into this restaurant and bar just before the rec area.

Due to this being at the rec area, I'm guessing this refers to fishermen,
not the other longest profession.  We think.... lol

While headed in to Amistad National Rec area, the original address we had was for the old visitor center that was closed down for a while but having bathrooms and an electronic payment machine for boats entering the reservoir.

Only $2 to camp, that is by far the cheapest I have seen.

Being so close to the Mexico border, we crossed check points quite often.

This road was being newly tarred and stone being laid down.
It's normally called a chip and seal.

Random cactus in bloom

Pecos River

We stopped by to see the old Roy Bean homestead.  He was the law west of Pecos River in the early 1900's.  His court house also served as the local bar.  But more importantly, they have a really large cactus garden nearly in full bloom.

We are passing by big bend today to hit Fort Davis first.

It's nice to see our shadow is staying right with us!

This is an old Calvary base where the army soldiers helped to patrol the area during the unrest around the Indian wars between 1854 and the 1890's.  They were there to protect emigrants, mail routes, etc.  In a 3 yr span, the soldiers marched over 117,000 miles!  I'm sure that todays soldiers appreciate some of our technological advancements...

Shannon thinks these little stands are illegal immigrant lookouts
