Day 10 - Redding, CA to Redbluff, CA

Day 10 - Oct 19, 2014 Redding, CA to Red Bluff, CA

478 miles, 3 National Parks, and 2 states

California and Oregon (again)

We opted to change direction after Whiskeytown and go up the east coast and get Lassen Volcanic and then Lava Bed NP by way of Oregon and down by Mount Shasta to Red Bluff.  We felt that we had a couple days to get in the last few out of the way parks while we could.

Shannon did an awesome job spotting these birds!

Took a pic...ya never know,
it could have been the Times Square Christmas tree!!

Let's just say that Lassen Volcanic NP is out in the absolute middle of nowhere and signs are not marked well.  We probably went an extra 60 miles today trying to find it.

We had to go from California through Oregon to get from Lassen to Lava Beds.  Oregon is a full-serve only gas state...  Not used to that.  Ryan got yelled at a couple times!!  So I quickly researched it.  Law since 1951 preventing untrained people from dispensing class 1 explosive liquids in a vehicle.  Funny thing, now they use the excuse of it proving jobs.  Well, I guess its true, just don't be in a hurry as you may wait for a few minutes.  And don't think that jumping out to 'help' get them started is the thing to do because the fine is $500 for dispensing your own gas... And you are doing someone else's job.  So sit and relax :)

Tule Lake was quite beautiful

Lava Beds makes for a nice drive coming in going by Tule Lake, but the park is just old lava beds as its name sake.  Again, we see lots of that here in Hawaii.  There are some hikes, and some formations and small lava tubes, but not so much our thing.  We are ready to get back down to the redwoods.

Mt Shasta was visible for miles
After coming around Mt. Shasta, we found Weed! This town seemed quite popular as we saw many people proclaiming their love for Weed.  This picture is borrowed from the internet, thanks internet picture taker!  We came through at dusk and couldn't get any good pictures.
