Panhandling through Gulf Islands NS to Fort Morgan Ferry and Pascagoula

Today we started off by driving Pensacola Beach from end to end...including Gulf Island National Seashore in FL.  We then had to hit up Zaxby's for lunch...our last chance for my new favorite chicken.  Little did we know we would discover Cane's chicken for dinner...glad to have found a replacement.  We then rode over to the end of an island to Fort Morgan to catch a ferry across the bay.  We arrived in Pascagoula for the night...a neat little coastal town.  Murky brown water compared to the Gulf Island NS, but Ryan really enjoyed the shipyards, refineries and industry of the area.

At some point, we will travel this way.  Bring our "house" with us, park it somewhere for a while and ride our motorcycle around.

Beautiful green blue water...as close to home as we felt along the coast.

Very true!

I call this a "Rhinoceros Roach"...not sure of it's real name

Navarre Beach Boardwalk

This is one of the protected nesting areas.  Look close and you will notice there are several birds nesting in the sand.

Turns out that Fort Barrancas is inside a Naval Base.  We were required to put on long sleeve shirts to enter the base. A base PPE requirement for all motorcyclists.

Fort Barrancas was very cool and well preserved.  This walkway went under the moat that surrounded the fort.  This fort was used during two different points in time.  Occupied by the Spanish and later the English.

The "moat"

This tree must have scoliosis

The pelican is almost washed out...

Made our way through Flora-Bama

We caught the Fort Morgan Ferry - it's a scenic ride across the Gulf and we bypassed Mobile.  While we would have liked to checked out Mobile it made no sense since our goal was to ride as close to the coast as possible to Texas.

For those who didn't know you could go "further south" than Mobile, AL, here is a map.

Pelicans were always seeing us off and greeting on the other side.

The pooping station at every ferry port

Pelican Coastal Highway

One of many variations of a bridge to allow boats through.

A waterpark splash pad in this small town we roade through.

Found a great Chicken place down the road from our hotel...a welcome competitor with the Zaxby's we grew to love in FL but have not seen since Pensacola.  Raising Cane's beat Zaxby's overall...we would proceed to eat at Raising Cane's throughout Mississippi and Louisiana.

Not much pink reflection on the brown water at sunset
