Utah Day6 - Rainbow Bridge, Glen Canyon through Zion

Day 6
We decided to take the Lake Powell tour to Rainbow Bridge.  One of the more elite parks as you can only get to it by way of a 51 mile trek through Lake Powell.  It was a nice relaxing days with a few hours on the boat each way riding through the canyon and a couple mile round trip hike to the bridge.  Total number of people on the boat was 26 and the crew was really nice.  They had a giant coffee , lemonade, and water coolers and were not afraid to keep us well hydrated.

We also were able to stop at Dangling Rope Marina that is accessible only by boat and helicopter.  Due to the recent heat, we also decided to head back to Vegas at night after the tour so that we could enjoy the ride while temps are 100 or below.  It was still 104 around midnight...

Our vessel for the day.

Dramatic views

This is the barge that services Dangling Rope Marina

We created a pretty big wake, the jet skis' enjoyed the waves

After about 3/4 mile of hiking, she comes into view.

And then... Ta Da!

Dinosaur footprint by Rainbow Bridge

This was the only shade on all the lake that we saw.

Shannon working that camera

And it was worth the trip! But pretty much impossible to get our selfie with this park sign.

Can you see the steps carved into the rocks?  Early miners used these to mine for gold in the bottom of the canyon nearly 300 ft below the water (before the dam was built.)  They were big steps and even used by the mules!

The steps are difficult to spot when you don't know where to look.

Boat cops!

Dangling Rope Marina

Lots of house boats on this lake

Our deckhand Mary was pretty awesome!

I enjoyed the relaxing trip with all the scenery

Dusk over Lake Powell

Moon shining bright!

Is that the sun or moon?

Another day closing out

Wrong mode of transport for night shots.  I think this was Mercury and Venus nearly aligned.

This was our beautiful view through Zion, and 5 mph switchbacks are a challenge in the pitch black, even on a motorcycle!

Nice moonrise

Day 7
Stayed at Days Inn and woke up about 8am and started cleaning the bike while Shannon sorted out clothing for the trip home.  Head to storage and get er put away and call the taxi.

More to come!
We will be back in 2 weeks for the Solvang, CA and Mountain Home, ID ride. See ya then!
